The PPHS Careers Advisor conducts various initiatives to help assist with student growth, learning and transitions into further education or the world of work post school.

Our school offers career based initiatives for various year groups including the following:

Year 10

  • Careers workshops through the Senior Preparation Program (SPP) for all Year 10 students focusing on topics such as writing a resume, job seeking and interviews.
  • Practice job interviews for Year 10 students with industry personnel from a wide range of occupations.
  • Student interviews between the Careers Advisor and all Year 10s to assist with the subject selection process, this includes the enrolment in TAFE delivered Vocational Education and Training (TVET) courses, the checking of Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) and NSW Education Standards (NESA) requirements for completion of the HSC.
  • School work experience program for all Year 10 students.
  • Organisation of WH&S White Card Training at school for students wishing to enter trade related occupations.
  • Stage 5 Year 10 TVET for students considering transitioning from school to work at the conclusion of Year 10.
  • Stage 5 Youth Engagement Strategy (YES) courses with local TAFE campuses for at-risk students
  • Careers Talks at lunchtime in Terms 2 and 3

Year 11

  • Assistance and support for Year 11 students considering transitioning from school to work during senior study.
  • Monitoring of students attending TVET courses outside of school and liaising with TAFE in regards to student attendance and performance.
  • Coordination and monitoring of School Based Apprenticeships and Traineeships (SBAT)
  • Checking of subject changes made by students during the Preliminary Course to ensure they meet ATAR requirements and NESA guidelines to qualify for the level of the HSC.
  • Careers Talks at lunchtime in Terms 2 and 3
  • Promotion of various School-to-Work pathways including School-to-University, School-to-TAFE, School-to-Traineeship and Apprenticeship opportunities.

Year 12

  • Assistance and support for Year 12 students considering transitioning from school to work during senior study before the completion of the HSC.
  • Monitoring of students attending TVET courses outside of school and liaising with TAFE in regards to student attendance and performance.
  • Coordination and monitoring of School Based Apprenticeships and Traineeships. (SBAT)
