13 May 2019
On Thursday 23 May, Picnic Point High School will be raising funds for Cancer Council, Australia by hosting Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea. According to Cancer Council Australia, cancer is a leading cause of death in Australia and almost 50,000 deaths from cancer are estimated for 2019. The direct health system costs of cancer are in excess of $4.5 billion. With an estimated 145,000 new cases of cancer expected to be diagnosed in Australia this year and that number set to rise to 150,000 by 2020, the school has registered to host the event in the hope of making a difference to those impacted by cancer.
By getting together to participate in this morning tea, students will raise money to contribute to funding the Cancer Council’s work. Cancer Council Australia is integral in raising awareness of the incidence and impact of cancer. The council also contributes funds to life-saving research, prevention and support programs.
During an extended recess on 23 May, Picnic Point High School students will be able to purchase cakes, slices, biscuits, and other items to raise money to contribute to the Cancer Council. Hot beverages will also be available from the school café which is run by the student body. Entertainment including musical performances, games, raffles and guessing competitions will also be provided on the day. All food and musical entertainment has been prepared by the students at the school. Prefects will also assist teachers to run all activities on the day. Of most importance, is that all money raised will go to Cancer Council Australia.
As well as contributions made by staff and students, the school office is happy to accept donations from parents of students, businesses and other members of the community. Donations can be made by contacting the school on 9772 1700. Every dollar raised helps support those impacted by cancer.
