NSW schools offer special religious education and special education in ethics. Approved providers deliver these, where available.
Write to the school if you wish to withdraw your child from special religious education, sometimes known as scripture. Special education in ethics is an option for your primary-age child if you withdraw them from special religious education. For more information, visit Religion and ethics.
At Picnic Point High School, approximately 6% of students participate in SRE delivered once per term, with a further 2.5% participating in a weekly Muslim Prayer or Christian Youth Group on Fridays at lunchtime.
On enrolment parents/carers will be given the SRE participation letter to complete and return. After the initial enrolment, notification of changes to a child’s enrolment in SRE should be given to the principal, in writing.
The following SRE classes are offered at Picnic Point High School each term: Orthodox and Combined Protestant faiths. These services are provided by St Euphemia Parish (Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia) and LIfegate (Churches of Christ in NSW [Fresh Hope])
During the time that SRE classes are being held, SRE students will be located in a separate space whilst students not attending will remain in their classrooms and will participate in meaningful activities that could include reading, private study or completing homework.
